Church Performs Survey On Gospel Principles Ch 1-2
The Church is surveying class members experiences with the Gospel Principles 2009 manual. The results will be part of a report that will be submitted to Church leadership to assist in the development of effective Church curriculum.
Make your voice known. Seriously consider the questions and make sure your voice is added to this important report. Take the survey here.
Note: It appears that after just three days the survey is now closed.

I don’t know which actually discourages me more: the incurable complainers, who would, I am certain, accuse of the Christ himself for “dumbing down” the Gospel for someone as “seasoned” as they are; or the all-is-well-in-Zion types, who are unable to countenance any criticism concserning Church and its leaders (nay, we’d have to say Leaders with a Capital L.)
Often I may sound like the all-is-well type, but that, I decided upon consideration, is more because I am so exasperated by the constant whining.
I wonder if the most vocal complainers are the offspring of another generation of LDS parents whose major interests are entertainment and money, in that order — maybe it’s the converts brought by those attention-hungry goal-setters who just can’t let well enough alone, and “fix” the ugly parts of the truth by lying about them.
For, although truth is not ugly in itself, it is often considered so by viewers who do not like what it’s saying.
That would be another interesting web survey, wouldn’t it?
Velska, thanks for your comment. Of the 50 plus comments left at the LDS Media Talk thread on the survey, there is quite a range of viewpoints expressed. The large majority of negative responses is quite stark. On that thread, there were very little, if any comments, that addressed specific areas of improvement.
However, there is a great deal of excellent suggestions being produced elsewhere such as at Feast Upon The Word blog and other venues not only providing thoughtful reflecting of doctrine but also on how to teach it. I’ve highlighted various reviews in my other posts.
Generally speaking, I think the survey was an excellent idea and really indicates the serious efforts to improve teaching materials. And I think those who actually took the time to participate in the survey and provided constructive feedback did a great service. I think there are many sincere and thoughtful Latter-day Saints who would like to offer their experiences with the manual both positive and areas of improvement. Hopefully, this survey is a harbinger of things to come.
I am a fan of surveys such as this one. I suppose that on the freeform answers, at least one of which has traditionally been prompted on various surveys I’ve participated in, there have always been assorted cranks, who have complained and whined.
Feast Upon The Word is an excellent blog. I really respect the effort that’s taken to build, as well as the insights into learning and teaching scriptures they provide.
